| McCain's Sort Of GI Bill |
| 2008-05-27 |
I saw that really white older guy running for president on tv tonight talking about something about called a GI bill. Now you would think this country would be all about giving a big wet kiss to our soldiers for sucking it up and going over to that sandy part of the world to fight terrorists. It’s the least we could do. I mean can you think of a crappier job? One where you die doing it? So at first I thought it was wrong that we send them a bill after they get back home. Why charge them to fight them there so I don’t have to fight them here? Then I learned that we don’t actually make them pay for the chance to get blown up and stuff. The GI bill is really a sorta thank you. It’s just not a real big thank you right now. More like an almost thank you. You know the kind you get when you do something nice for someone who thinks you’re invisible. They say it more to make themselves feel good. I guess even assholes say thank you sometimes. McCain and Bush think we should say thanks but not too loud. Like kinda half a thank you and a half now go away and don’t bug me. My dad was like that a lot when I was growing up. I’m pretty sure he loved me but he had other things to do and I had to get by with a “don’t pick your nose” or a “keep your hands out of your pants pockets.” It wasn’t much but it got me through grade school. He died when I was in the 8th grade. My mom didn’t even go to the funeral but a lot of other women did. He was pretty popular with the ladies I'm thinking. As he was in the Coast Guard during that Viet Nam thing there was a guy there in a uniform who played a tape of a bugle player. Afterwards they gave me the flag which was pretty cool for a 14 year old and I think I still have it somewhere. Anyway, what I can’t figure out is why McCain doesn’t want to give our soldiers a real thank you for doing what most of us would never do. It only seems right. What he said on tv didn’t make much sense to me and I’m guessing the people who are still alive after coming back from that sandy part of the world think so too. He said something about not giving these guys too good of a deal or everyone will bail after like 3 years. I guess he and Bush think if everyone starts to think the grass is greener on the other side nobody will want to go back. Don’t they know just about any place would look greener than that place? I figured the doofus in the White House now would try and push this scam but not McCain cuz he’s like a real life war hero. He did hard time and never cracked. The kind of guy they make movies about. Not like my dad, he would have rolled in like 2 minutes. He never could keep a secret except when he was married to my mom. I’m thinking maybe McCain really believes it’s best for this country to not let people think about how much more fun they would have going to college football games on Saturdays and tapping kegs at sun up. Since he is kinda old he probably thinks it’s not weird to be a freshman at 36 but it is. I say if we get 3 good years out of anyone willing to get shot at then that’s more than enough and we need to have their back! Maybe if we do and give them enough bread to get on their feet they might be able to forget some of the stuff they had to see and do over there. On that Fastball show they said a ton of democrats and republicans all voted to not punk out and screw these guys over. I think they said the new and improved GI bill was going to pass but might get deep sixed by the decider. Bush said it was too expensive and would veto it but he’s probably still pissed he didn’t get shit after doing a few months as a jet pilot with the Texas Rangers. Don’t know if he actually ever flied a plane but he did look bitchin in the fly boy costume when he rode shotgun and landed on the aircraft carrier. Maybe the mission wasn’t really accomplished but did he not look pretty cool. I am thinking though it must be really embarrassing for McCain to have to hang out with that wannabe and know he’s one of his fav 5’s. What if he actually win’s the election and has to follow that fuck up? That has to give him the creeps. I mean running for president is one thing but winning is another. Since I heard some guy at the gas station say our budget deficit is about 450 zillion dollars how much fun will this gig turn out to be? Not much and that’s why I’m thinking about not voting for Obama in November. I like him too much to see him have to clean up the mess Bush leaves behind. Now this GI bill hassle may not matter much to you but to the real hero’s of this country who give up legs, arms and lives it’s a big deal. We need to do the right thing here. Or we can keep on using these people until they figure out what’s up. Then it’s going to get ugly and let’s hope they turned in their bazooka’s and flame throwers. Later. |
